The UF Moot Court team has had an amazing Spring 2008 semester filled with numerous competition wins.
In February, our team placed first in the Henry G. Manne Law & Economics Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C. This marks the second consecutive year that UF Law has won the competition.
In March, we sent two teams to the ABA Law Student Division Regional Appellate Advocacy Competition in Dallas, Texas. One team won a best brief award and the second team won a spot to compete in the national competition in Chicago, Illinois.
The advancing team of Elizabeth Faist, Jennefir Jones, and Michael Schuster competed in the American Bar Association Law Student Division National Appellate Advocacy Competition National Finals
in Chicago on April 3-4.
After arguing in two preliminary rounds, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Michael advanced to the octafinals and the top 16. The team won their octafinal round against Michigan State, and advanced to the quarterfinals, or "elite 8". By a split decision, the team's run ended with a close loss to a great team from South Texas. Ultimately, Harvard University Law School took home the National Championship.
The ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition is the largest and
most prestigious moot court competition in the United States.

About the Team
One of the foremost national moot court teams, the Justice Campbell Thornal Moot Court Team competes each year at over a dozen tournaments throughout the country. The team was founded in 1961, and was named after the prominent Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice. The team's mission is to promote excellence in appellate advocacy.
Comprised of students from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, the team has received numerous state and national awards. New members are selected each semester from all 3rd and 4th semester students who try out for the team. To be eligible to try out, students must have completed appellant advocacy and be in good academic standing.
Each semester, the team holds a five week try-out competition which requires interested students to write an appellate brief and then present two oral arguments before a panel of student / faculty judges. The fall competition is sponsored by the Orlando firm of Zimmerman, Kiser & Sutcliffe, while the spring competition is sponsored by Holland & Knight. The top four students compete in the biannual Final Four Competition held at the College of Law, in which either the Florida Supreme Court or U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeal presides.
